St Albans III 27 - Hatfield 17   Unlike the last game we started with a full team and two subs! The return of Mick to the team not only added more gray hair than we are used too, but also meant we could have contested scrums. The forward pack were awesome and not only managed to win all of our own scrums, but stole most of Hatfield’s as well (WELL DONE BOYS). The first half was all St Albans, with three trys. James wandered over the line for his usual easy-looking score. Despite Bill & Cieran’s best efforts, Fraser still had enough space on the right wing to score in the corner. Finally, Keir grabbed the ball from a close in ruck to cross the line “without a single hair being disturbed”. Although we scored another try in the second half (Dave O’Leary weaving through the defence – should be a centre, not a prop), Hatfield came back at us and with 6 minutes to go they scored to be within 3 points (17-20). However, we didn’t panic, and planned to keep the ball tight for the remainder of the game. Despite our failure to do this for more than 30 seconds, our fantastic defense held firm. As Hatfield got increasingly frantic, Fergus chipped over the top of the Hatfield defence and in the ensuing chase the Hatfield fullback lost the ball, which bounced off NZ Mark’s shoulder and into Wazza’s eager hands – TRY!
